My Purpose

To make a positive impact on entrepreneurship.

I believe in owning a business, and in being in control of your own future. It doesn't come easy and it doesn't come free. The moments of despair are real. Every time I help someone see that clearly and keep going through one, that's the impact.

Conversations

The work,
on the record.

I'm CEO of HorsePower Brands, a multi-brand home service franchise platform. Building it meant learning most of this the expensive way, and along the way I sat down with people who asked the real questions.

What actually worked. What it cost. What I'd do differently with the same hand. It's collected in one place, and it's the fastest way to work out whether I'm any use to you before you reach out.

Live Seven

Is the life you're building the one you actually want?

That question is too big to answer straight, so Live SEVEN breaks it into seven: your health, your head, your people, your time, your money, your impact, your next yes. Seven honest answers. Measured against no one. Not your parents' view. Not anyone else's.

YouVSYou.

01

Physical Health

Blood

Everything else runs on this one. You don't get a second, and the one you have keeps an honest record of how you treat it.

02

Mental Health

Twilight

The dimension nobody else can see. Managing the fire without extinguishing it, and being honest about which one you're doing.

03

Relationships

Firelight

The people who warm and are warmed by what you're building. The table. The ones whose lives are genuinely different if you're not at it.

04

Freedom

Horizon

Time, choice, and the space to live it your way. The line where open water meets open sky, and nobody else deciding how close you get to it.

05

Money

Harvest

Fuel, not the finish line. What funds the life rather than the reason for it. Planted, tended, left to compound.

06

Impact

Ocean

The legacy lens. What you build that remains when you're gone. Depth rather than surface, and worth being measured by.

07

Adventure

Sunrise

Say yes. Squeeze every ounce out of this life. The reward at the end of one pursuit and the invitation to the next.

Live SEVEN is black and white. Color only appears when you step inside a dimension. Step in.

My Top 10

The ten I'd
hand you first.

Books that actually changed how I run something or how I live. Not a reading list to look impressive. The short version of what I'd say if you asked me over coffee.

Mental HealthWhen nothing sticks

Atomic Habits

James Clear

You don't rise to your goals, you fall to your systems. The most useful book here for anyone who keeps starting over on Monday.

Business OwnershipWhen you are the business

The E-Myth Revisited

Michael E. Gerber

Why the best technician makes the worst owner. If you can't take a week off without everything stopping, start here.

Business OwnershipWhen the team pulls apart

Traction

Gino Wickman

An operating system for a company that has outgrown being run out of your head. Meetings, numbers, accountability. All of it made boring on purpose.

ImpactWhen you're the ceiling

The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership

John C. Maxwell

Your business can't outgrow you. This is the one Maxwell to read if you only read one.

RelationshipsWhen the pipeline is empty

Fanatical Prospecting

Jeb Blount

Unglamorous, uncomfortable, and the difference between a good year and a bad one. Nobody wants to hear it, which is why it works.

RelationshipsWhen the conversation matters

Never Split the Difference

Chris Voss

Negotiation as listening rather than winning. Changes how you handle a price objection and how you talk to your kids.

Business OwnershipWhen everything is busy and nothing moves

The Goal

Eliyahu M. Goldratt

A novel about a factory that teaches you to find the one constraint holding everything else back. Every business has one.

Business OwnershipWhen good is the enemy

Good to Great

Jim Collins

What separates companies that last from companies that were briefly hot. The discipline is the whole point.

Mental HealthWhen the days run you

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Stephen R. Covey

Old, unfashionable, still right. Start with the difference between urgent and important and it'll cost you a week of bad habits.

Mental HealthWhen your gut keeps being wrong

Thinking, Fast and Slow

Daniel Kahneman

How your own mind talks you into bad calls. Slower going than the rest, and worth it.

Start wherever you're weakest, not wherever you're most curious.

Outside the work

Adventures

One hard thing, once a year. Four fourteeners in a day, a canyon rim to rim, national parks with my family. Work hard, play hard. The second half is not optional, and it's the part most operators quietly give up first.

If you're stuck

Reach out.

I'd rather have a real conversation than watch someone work alone on a problem I've already had. If you're building something, thinking about starting, or wondering whether to keep going. Say so.
